Become a social media superstar!

Gain thousands of friends and followers.  Negotiate a sweet book deal.  Secure scores of high paid speaking gigs.  Start a boutique consultancy.  Blah, blah, blah.  If that's ALL that you're after, best of luck.  But don't expect everyone to share your enthusiasm.  Especially me.

With all of the problems we face today, from healthcare, education, energy and elderly care to the help that organizations need to effectively employ all of the new digital tools and platforms and make a difference in people's lives, a consumed focus on attaining celebrity status appears shallow and uninspiring.  At least it does to me.

Bravo to you. The world for far too long has been consumed with celebrity. What will it take for a real and valuable change to take root in our society so that we no longer care a toot about a tweet?

Mark Martin

I definitely agree with you on the empty personal value derived from those "superstars". However, I believe that sometimes that is what it takes for a technology to seen and understood for its potential value in solving real world problems.

Tom Asacker

Great point Mark. I hadn't looked at it that way.
