The Business of Belief: Why We Believe What We Believe in Business and Life
Have you taken a look at the $819 billion economic stimulus bill presently with the U.S. Senate? If so, can you connect the spending of your money to specific actions that will encourage fellow consumers to consume goods and services in the short term? I can't. Not really. Does that mean that people won't eventually start spending again? Of course not. And when they do, watch the collective government backslapping.
Did you watch the Super Bowl last night? If so, can you connect the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on the entertaining advertising to specific actions that will encourage consumers to consume the goods and services of the advertisers? Me either. Does that mean that they won't? No. Does it mean that they will? No again. But get this: the marketers and agency folk are already backslapping and high-fiving each other. Strange, huh?
P.S. That was one hell of a game!

Hey Tom,
I’m a great fan of your blog and really enjoyed this recent entry. We're still on Cloud 9 here in Pittsburgh, but the bonus for us was critiquing the ads - it allowed us to regain our composure between plays. My agency started a new blog recently about Challenger Brands and I added you to our blogroll. I think our readers could learn a lot from you.
If you get a chance, check us out: http://blog.fittingroup.com/
Your feedback would be highly valued.
Best,
Andrea

As you referenced in your nine predictions for 2009: “All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.”⎯ Mark Twain
Looks to me like one of your nine predictions has been realized just 32 days into the new year!
