Josh Billings on life

"Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well."

So does effective management.  Do you ever wonder whether or not you're a good boss?  Please, don't go ask your people.  They'll lie, just like people do when participating in focus groups.  Instead, take a look at my friend Trevor Gay's short checklist in the N.Y. Times.  The attributes certainly define the best bosses I've had the privilege of working with over my long and diverse career.
