Great article Tom. Hopefully a new book is in the works on this very topic. This is one of the main reasons I canceled my membership to Roman Catholic INC. Tired of the stuck in tradition, talk-down, fake authentic, money-hungry approach that has become so pervasive in recent years. Good thing people are finally waking up and refusing to believe in something "just because its the way its always been" rather than the honest to goodness value that most people are seeking.

I agree...great article. Although the religious analogies at the beginning led to some initial skepticism.

I think belief is the perfect next step in explaining the mantra of good branding being an expectation of a desired feeling.

Belief also means and reflects the fact that we have to get much closer to our customers (followers?). For some reason, trying to convince some businesses that there's more than just one-way push communication via TV is still difficult. Perhaps this will make things easier...

I'm a fan of the belief in...say something often enough and eventually it will come back to you. Ok, it doesn't end up as your idea, but the solution is what you wanted!
