Nick Denton on blogs

"There are too many people looking at blogs as being some magic bullet for every company's marketing problem, and they're not. It's Internet media. It's just the latest iteration of Internet media."

Hi Tom

Happy Monday morning from over the pond my friend - I do hope you are well.

I posted this on Tom Peters Web site in a discussion about the same thing;

"You really are asking about outcomes from blogging I guess.

The answer in my view is - its up to you.

Frankly I see it as a brilliant way to create networks and take them on from there. Blogs in themselves do not generate business or revenue - they are simply a fabulous way to exchange thoughts and opinion - I love blogging."

End of quote ....

The point I am trying to make Tom is that hard work will always be required - the Blog just assits the links and communication - there is nothing to beat good old fashioned hard work in the end. Blogging is the cart before the horse if people think blogging alone will create revenue.

That´s a fine reflection, Trevor. I think many people are obsessed with finding a magic solution to everything. Blogging is very useful because you can be in touch with people you wouldn´t be interested about if they didn´t blog. But if you hope blogging will bring you money and success as an automatic effect I think you are misunderstanding blogging. There´s another point i´d like to mention. Tom Asacker has repeated several times that when you start to blog you have to offer something and this something can be information, play or humor -correct me Tom if I´m forgetting something-. That´s what you are offering. If you just don´t offer any of these, your value is very low and people won´t read your blog.

I'm all for poo-pooing the hype, which has been intense of late. But how ironic is it that Denton--arguably one of the most successful blogrepreneurs in existence--bursts the blog bubble? Maybe he's just scared of what happened last time to no one bothered to burst the internet bubble.

Felix + Trevor = Plain + Simple. Spot on. Interaction = Key.
